  15. <p>     DIED. Samuel Stratton, 73, one of the few pro-defense
  16. Democratic Congressmen in the mold of Senator Henry Jackson;
  17. of a heart attack; in Gaithersburg, Md. As a champion of U.S.
  18. involvement in the Vietnam War and of the B-1 bomber and the
  19. MX missile, Stratton was at war with many of his Democratic
  20. colleagues in the House. But during his three decades in
  21. Congress, the upstate New Yorker hewed to the orthodox liberal
  22. line on many issues, supporting school busing and economic
  23. sanctions against South Africa.
